Diagnostics
Turner Automotive are diagnostics, engine management system and auto electrical specialists, this means that we diagnose and repair car and vehicle electrical and computer systems. As specialists we do not believe in just swapping components until the problem is found. We always find out the cause of the problem and ensuring cost effective repairs at all times.
Our specialist equipment gives us better than dealer level access to your cars computer system so we can see exactly what is going on throughout your car, from this we can diagnose any faults, Our testing doesn't stop there, as auto electricians once we have narrowed down the fault we can start to check the individual components for faults.
Our specialist methods mean that you pay less because you are only paying for the fault to be fixed, not to have components swapped unnecessarily
Many people will have hear the phrase "limp mode" this happens when there is as issue with your car that affects the emissions and to prevent any major problems your car disables certain features. When this happens you will most certainly notice a loss in power, we have the ability to determine exactly what the cause of the problem is, then fix it and take your car out of "limp mode".
Issues we have helped people with range from Lights on the dash such as the Airbag, ABS and check engine light through to Alarm and Immobiliser problems right through to burnt out wires and looms, and much more, look around the site for lots of other examples of areas that we are regularly called upon to repair.
Code Readers and Diagnostic Equipment
Important Note - Most people, including it would seem many garages do not understand that the errors shown by fault code readers of all types, including dealer or manufacturer specific tools DON'T identify the cause of problems! This is a fact, unfortunately many who should know better don't.
It would be far too lengthy an article and probably far too technical for most people to go into detail explaining all this, so I will just provide the following simple explanation.
The fault codes on cars is a best guess, produced from a very limited and very basic computer, the ECU, based upon the data provided by a few simple sensors. Unfortunately if a sensor passes on readings that are outside those specified by the manufacturer the ECU decides that the sensor is faulty. If results of more than one sensor indicate "out of range" results the ECU makes a best guess at the cause of the problem.
Unfortunately for this type of system to work properly it would require far more sophisticated and therefore more expensive sensors and a far more powerful ecu to identify the actual problem. This would add far to much to the cost each car and still would not be infallible.
It must always be remembered that the "engine management" systems fitted to cars are really just Emission Management systems, they are only there to ensure that the cars meet the relevant emission control regulations for the vehicle. They were never intended to identify problems, they do sometimes give an idea of symptoms and with the right equipment allow the reading of live data to enable properly trained specialists to diagnose problems combined with a full understanding of the mechanics of the systems.
