Airbag & SRS Problems

The important thing to bear in mind if your airbag light is on is that the airbags probably wont work and that your insurance is probably invalid, your insurance company will try anything to get out of claims for injuries and the fact that your airbags did not work and the airbag light is on is a good enough reason for them to invalidate any claims.

Airbag or SRS Light On

Although the majority of airbag and SRS faults are simply down to bad connections and damaged wires, tracking down the problem without access to the specialist equipment that we use is very difficult. Many vehicles have weak or problem areas that we have discovered through experience. One of the most common cause of failure is when seats are moved, particularly just after a second hand car has been bought and the new owners move the seats to meet their particular needs, the wiring for airbags and SRS systems is generally quite thin and goes stiff with age, move the wires around and the wires can break or the connectors pulled apart.

With the broad range of test equipment that we have at our disposal, we can quickly identify the area of the car that is causing a problem, testing and checking can sometimes involve considerable dismantling of the dashboard, seats and even removal of the carpets to properly access all the wiring involved.

Airbags contain sensitive and volatile explosives, Please do not attempt to work on or even disconnect any wires or connectors related to the airbag SRS system, even disconnecting a connector can result in activation and personal injury as well as damage to the seats, dashboard or elsewhere in the vehicle, disconnecting the battery is not enough, there are plenty of capacitors in cars that store power just waiting to cause you a problem.
